Our MissionWhere the land meets the sea
What We Fight For
Reducing the impact of plastics in the marine environments that surround us.
Defending our oceans from challenges threatening the vitality of the ecosystem.
Working with decision-makers to ensure full and fair beach access for all to enjoy.
Coast & Climate
Taking on issues that threaten our beaches and natural shorelines.
Protecting the health and sustainability of our planet's most precious resource.
The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network.
We Support a Fee on Single Use Plastic Bags in Virginia Beach
As Virginia Beach residents, the health of our waterways, beaches, and fisheries is critical to our local economy and our way of life. We have all seen plastic bags in the water and on the beach!
Plastic bags are one of the most common forms of plastic pollution found in our beach clean ups and pose a significant threat to waterways, wildlife, and seafood. Plastic bags not sent to landfills are often put in recycling bins, where they clog recycling machines and cost recyclers and taxpayers money to remove.
Blue Water Task Force
The Blue Water Task Force is Surfrider’s volunteer water quality monitoring program that provides critical information to protect public health at the beach. Surfrider chapters use this program to raise awareness of local pollution problems and to bring communities together to implement solutions.
