Seatack OFG Dedication

On April 22, 2016, Earth Day, Seatack Elementary School unveiled the Ocean Dance sculpture in their Ocean Friendly Garden. This piece of art was created by local artist Debra Chako along with the school's 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. The entire school came outside for the dedication along with teachers past and present, local community and school leaders and members of Virginia Beach Chapter and First Colonial High School Quad Club.

The event was led by Gifted Resources teacher, Marie Culver. The fourth graders sang a few songs, the principal and the artist said a few words and our chapter was presented with a plaque honoring the partnership between Surfrider VB and Seatack Elementary.

The Ocean Friendly Garden was planted last year by students and VB Chapter volunteers and has since been decorated with various wind chimes, a rain barrel with the CPR message and fish sculptures created by fifth graders. All of the fish sculptures represent real fish found off the Virginia coast. The Ocean Dance Sculpture is made up of "pieces of coral" designed and created by third, fourth and fifth graders topped with clay flowers created by the artist.
