April 2016 Movie Night

Point Break Movie Night, Recep Ugraskan

On Thursday, March 31st, the Virginia Beach Surfrider Foundation hosted it's first surf movie night for 2016. This event was held at local favorite brewery, Back Bay Brewing, 614 Norfolk Ave, Virginia Beach, VA 23451, from 6:30 to 10:30. The movie shown was the newly released version of Point Break, starring Luke Bracey as Johnny Utah, Edgar Ramirez as Bodhi, and the forever enchanting Teresa Palmer as Samsara, Utah's love interest and the destined femme fatale of this story. But, when someone that unbelievably gorgeous comes into your life, honestly, who could say no and walk away from their obligations and responsibilities to the F.B.I. for an inevitable stand off with the world and all the forces in it that they never expected to confront. Of course anyone with a shade of reasoning would not hesitate to walk away from these obstacles; but then again, it wouldn't be called Point Break and wouldn't take us on almost 2 hours of the most extreme, adrenaline pumping sporting experiences out there.

Though the amount of surfing in this film was next to none compared to the original one which exposed a nation into the culture and lifestyle of the surfing world, the 2015 remake left all those in attendance still feigning for waves. Still it packed lots of moments where GoPro footage made for a fun first person adventure through one base jumping experience after another, and with this and other common reoccurring themes, a hilarious drinking game broke out becoming the best part of the movie, which at the end of the night lead us right to where we wanted to be, laughing it up and enjoying hanging out with all the amazing people who came to have fun with us.

So next time we have another surf movie night, bring your beach chairs or blankets, and come on out and join us for a surf flick, a couple good laughs and just to have a good time. And if by any chance you happen to be Teresa Palmer, then I got a spot on my beach blanket with your name on it (hey a guy can always wish, right!?!?), 'til then, as they say in the movie biz, a la Point Break, "vaya con dios..."
