The Virginia Beach Chapter is participating in a Cigarette Litter Prevention Program in partnership with Clean Virginia Waterways, the Virginia Beach Hotel Association, Virginia Green and Keep America Beautiful. This unique pilot project is taking place at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront where several boardwalk hotels are being provided with cigarette butt receptacles, pocket ashtrays and educational materials for their guests. Cigarette receptacles are also being placed on the boardwalk from 15th Street to 24th Street.
Chapter volunteers along with volunteers from the Navy's Mid-Atlantic Fleet Readiness Center Det. Norfolk are assisting with cigarette butt litter scans to help determine the success of the program. The chapter will also be assisting with funding to purchase pocket ashtrays and educational materials.
This project is funded by Keep America Beautiful through their Cigarette Litter Prevention Program. This program has been implemented in over 1,500 communities in 14 years. Please visit the KAB website for more information about how you can implement one in your community.
